3 ways to make homeschool simple (it doesn't have to feel this hard)

Homeschool sales are in full swing in the US, and even though I'm an Aussie, I know I'm not the only one with my debit card out taking advantage of saving some money (or not, since now I can buy that pretty set of books with the $$ I saved - girl math).

I know us homeschool mamas get stars in our eyes when we see the latest and greatest new curriculums on sale, but is more really more when it comes to homeschool?

In my home, I'm juggling 5 kids - 4 who are school aged, and when I gather our curriculums together at once, my heart starts racing and the anxiety sets in. I know i'm not alone, so here's 5 ways I've learnt to keep things simple so I'm never feeling anxious or overwhelmed.

Set rules.

My homeschool set up is simple. I have 2 cabinets. One predominantly for curriculum, workbooks and papers, and the second holds our random bits like games, manipulatives, morning invitation supplies and the like.

The rule is, if it doesn't fit in the cabinets, somethings gotta go. This is where I declutter, move things into storage for future use or simply chuck it out.

Don't fix what's not broken.

If you currently have a curriculum that is working well, sis - you don't need another one. I know, I know... it's hard. We all want the shiny new things, but when the pay off is stress? It's never worth it.

Stick to what works, and invest that extra $$ into experiences and books.

Cut back on curriculums.

Repeat after me, "I don't need curriculum for every subject."

In the primary school years, it's all about exposure to ideas. A love of learning comes naturally to children when they're exposed to a feast of ideas and imagination through hands on experiences, stories in books and nature.

When we turn everything into a worksheet, it kills their natural enjoyment and forms resistance. I know it's hard for us structure, worksheet loving mums (me included), but try to let go and go with the flow when it comes to subjects like technology, science and humanities.

When you intentionally seek the learning that's happening during play, you'll begin to see how much their little brains are being used without them (or even you) even knowing it.

If you're in need of a reset and want help practical help simplifying your routine and focusing on what truly matters, my Homeschool Reset is for you. This bundle walks you through the exact mindset shifts and simple strategies confident homeschoolers use to make homeschool feel easy.
